George Skiadopoulos is the Director of the Institute of Finance and Financial Regulation. He is a Professor of Finance in the Department of Banking and Financial Management of the University of Piraeus and a Professor of Finance in the School of Economics and Finance of Queen Mary University of London. He is also an Honorary Senior Visiting Fellow at the Business School, City University of London.
His research interests and professional expertise lie in the fields of asset pricing, commodities, financial derivatives, risk management and portfolio management. He has published in Management Science, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Journal of Business and Economic Statistics, Journal of Banking and Finance and Journal of Financial Markets, among other academic journals.
His research has been awarded research grants by leading institutions, such as the Chicago Mercantile Exchange Group Foundation, the J.P. Morgan Research Centre in Commodities at University of Denver Colorado, the Athens Derivatives Exchange, and the Portuguese State. It has also been featured in Economonitor, CFO Magazine, Forbes, Market Watch, Seeking Alpha, Traders Magazine, The Verdict Wall Street Journal, and in the Research Digest Volumes of CFA, Citigroup, and Global Commodities. His research on measuring the effect of market frictions to stock returns has received the best paper award by the German Finance Association and it has been included in the WRDS list of impactful papers. His publication on the diversification benefits of investments in commodities was in the Top 25 most cited papers in the Journal of Banking and Finance for January 2010 - April 2015.
Professor Skiadopoulos holds a Ph.D. in Finance from the University of Warwick, an M. Sc. In Mathematical Economics and Econometrics from the London School of Economics and a Ptychion (ranked first in his graduating class) in Economics from the Athens University of Economics and Business.
